About Me
Hi! I'm Rachel, a rookie mama and (slightly-less-rookie) Bible teacher, fuelled by carbs, words and all things beautiful.
I spend my days at the intersection between theology, culture, Christian thought and ordinary life. My brain is equal parts Jane Austen, Genesis, The Office, C.S. Lewis, The Hungry Caterpillar and where I'm up to with the laundry.
I love writing about these things and pray this is a place where you will be encouraged to think well about life and to see it in all it's ordinary, glorious, God-breathed reality.

"Stay inside your commitments, be faithful, your place of work is a seminary, your work is a sacrament, your family is a monastery, your home is a sanctuary. Stay inside them, don't betray them, learn what they are teaching you without constantly looking for life elsewhere and without constantly believing that God is elsewhere."

My Story
I’m Rachel Worthy an Australian, wife, mama, Bible teacher, youth pastor and follower of Jesus.
Some *very* important things to know about me – I need carbs the way most people need caffeine. I survive on a steady diet of podcasts, potatoes and chocolate. I love both the 1995 and the 2005 Pride and Prejudice adaptations and am willing to debate anyone on the topic. I literally never look ‘put together’ – it’s a skill that eludes me. I collect books much faster than I read them and can’t seem to kick the habit. I once had two sheep living in my suburban back yard for 8 months. It was ridiculous and I 100% stand by my choice.
I strive to be a balanced person but when it comes to Jesus I’m all in, forever. As Paul said, ‘to live is Christ and to die is gain.’ (Phil 1:21) The longer I have loved Jesus, the more I have come to see his goodness and beauty infusing all of life. It is earthy, tangible, real, more real than anything else.
My husband, David, and I met in my last year of high school. After two years of telling him I’d never be with him, even though I was desperately in love with him (it’s a long story…) we finally started dating and eventually married in 2019. Dave is my best friend, the one who, even when he was a scraggy haired 17 year old, truly saw me beyond all the ‘Christian girl’ clichés. He’s a truly good man. Life with him has been easy, even when it’s hard.
Our first son Wesley (named after the great John Wesley) was born in 2022 and has been the GREATEST joy. He’s our little hobbit child who loves to dance and sing and cuddle and walk around the house with a stuffed animal tucked under his arm. I had no idea how outrageously great having a child was. Its hard work but I’ve deeply loved it.
We live in a little white house on a hill by the sea with a picket fence, a flower garden, a porch swing and a motley crew of sweet, rescued animals. (To be clear, we’re right in the middle of an old suburb – we don’t live in a romantic Jane Austen house, but it’s certainly romantic enough for me!) I adore collecting beautiful things for our home. 98% of the time I love homemaking, even the boring parts – as long as I can listen to a podcast. (Apologies to the feminists – I can’t help it!)
I have a Bachelor of Ministry and am currently pursing a Master of Arts, majoring in Christian Studies. So far I’ve mainly studied Biblical Hebrew but I’m also taking classes on the World of the Old Testament, Church History and Theology. I love all of it. I have aspirations to one day do a PhD which feels audacious to say, but there it is…
Dave and I are Youth Pastors at the local church where I have spent all my high school and adult years. Wesley is the happiest little youth kid you ever saw - he loves the youth and the youth love him. I am also part of our preaching team and teach classes one night a week – it’s one of my greatest joys!
I hope this is a space of encouragement, truth and beauty for you. Thank you for stopping by!
